The chamber used in our 6mm Creedmoor barrels is optimized for use with the high BC ammunition supplied by Copper Creek Cartridge Co. The chamber works best with the 105gr. Berger Hybrid bullet but is compatible with the 105gr. Hornady BTHP Match bullet as well.

With the Berger Hybrid bullet, the ammunition is loaded to an OAL of 2.800” and sits slightly back from seating into the lands. With the Hornady bullet, the ammunition is loaded to an OAL of 2.740” to accommodate the longer ogive of the bullet. With this configuration, the bullet may soft-seat into the lands. After the barrel’s break-in period, this will likely go away.

This barrel is not made to work with the 115gr. DTAC bullet. Its use is not recommended.

From our hand-loading experience, 6.5 Creedmoor cases can be resized to 6 Creedmoor and work without issue. In new, factory-supplied brass, the shoulder might be set back a bit too far and headspace below minimum. This will drastically shorten the case life due to case stretch just ahead of the web.

As a general rule, it is important to run the headspace set back of the shoulder on the resized cases close to maximum while still allowing for a “drop fit” in the chamber on a self-loader. If you purchase new brass, gauge to see where it falls on the headspace spectrum.

If you have new cases that are at minimum on the gauge or below, use the Hornady 105 BTHP loaded to 2.740” or a bit longer to give a soft seat and force the case head to the bolt face. In other words, you will headspace off the bullet, not the shoulder. This will allow the case to fire form and set the shoulder forward on the first fire. This minimizes case stretch in front of the web that could result in a premature case failure.
